Tanning preparation

The Day Before

  • We recommend you obtain a patch test if you have never used any self-tanning products before, or if you have sensitive skin
  • Do not use any other self-tanning products at least 1 week before your treatment
  • Hair removal should be done 24 hours prior to your treatment to give the pores time to close
  • Exfoliate any dry skin patches and moisturise with a non-oil based moisturiser
  • On the day of your Fake Bake treatment DO NOT wear:
make up, deodorant, perfume, body oils, or lotions. These will certainly react with the treatment and give an uneven finish

The Day of your Spray Tan

  • Shower and exfoliate to leave clean prepared skin
  • Do not moisturise
  • Do not apply deodorant or perfume since they react with the tanning lotion and may turn green in colour
  • All make-up must be removed if the face is to be tanned
  • Do not wear contact lenses
  • Our spray tan solution does not stain hair or lips

Clothing

  • During the spray tan you will be provided with paper pants, should you prefer please wear your own g-string, preferably not brand new.
  • After the spray tan, loose fitting dark clothing should be worn
  • Wear open shoes or flip flops to prevent rubbing
  • It is not advisable to wear expensive, tight fitting garments until a shower has been taken 6-8 hours or more after the tan

Post-Tan Recommendations

Your spray tan will take 6-8 hours (preferably overnight) to develop its full colour strength. Therefore, please follow these guidelines:

  • Loose fitting, dark clothing should be worn
  • Avoid touching all tanned areas with your hands
  • Traces of tanning solution can be transferred onto clothing & bed sheets; however, this can be easily removed in the wash
  • Do not wear tight fitting garments as this may rub away some of the tan
  • Do not shower, swim, or exercise as excessive sweating may cause the tan to break down quicker & more unevenly
  • Do not sit on light coloured or leather fabrics as the tanning solution may cause discolouration
  • Once your Fake Bake tan has been applied you must resist the urge to touch any area of your body as you may transfer the treatment to your palms.

Do not sit on light coloured or leather fabrics as the tanning solution may cause discolouration

After your tan has developed: 6-8 hours

  • Rinse off remaining colour guide with warm/hot water. Once the water runs clear gently wash yourself with a mild soap.
  • Avoid products that contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHA’s) as they can strip colour.
  • Avoid swimming pools, as Chlorine will prematurely fade your tan.
  • To prolong your tan use Fake Bake Oil Free Moisturiser daily, locking in the colour. This will also hydrate your skin. In addition, use Fake Bake body scrub to ensure your Fake Bake spray tan fades equally over your body.

Precautions

There are a certain number of precautions you should take notice of before undertaking a spray tan. In particular, if you have any of the following conditions you should avoid having a spray tan altogether:

  • Psoriasis
  • Eczema
  • Cuts or Abrasions
  • Allergy problems
  • We advise against tanning during the first trimester of pregnancy due to melanin changes in the skin

Please also note that a spray tan offers no protection from the sun. High factor sunscreens and regular moisturising is recommended when sitting for prolonged periods in the sun.
